INSTALLATION AND OPERATING
INSTRUCTIONS
THE GUARDIAN MODEL 102 FLARE IS
DESIGNED TO LIGHT THE PILOT AND SENSE THE FLAME USING A
SINGLE ELECTRODE. THE PILOT SENSOR RELIES ON THE
PILOT FLAME TO PROVIDE AN ELECTRICAL PATH FOR THE SENSOR
CURRENT. THE FLAME COMPLETES A LOW RESISTANCE DC
CURRENT, THE GUARDIAN HAS PROOF OF A STABLE PILOT FLAME
AND UPON LOSS OF THE DC CURRENT (PILOT FLAME), THE
GUARDIAN IMMEDIATELY ATTEMPTS TO RE-LIGHT THE PILOT
FLAME BY IMPRESSING HIGH DC VOLTAGE PULSES ON THE
ELECTRODE. THE IGNITION ARC IS MAINTAINED
CONTINUOUSLY IN ABSENCE OF FLAME. IF THE PILOT IS
RE-ESTABLISHED, THE GUARDIAN WILL GO BACK INTO THE FLAME
MONITOR MODE
THE PILOT NOZZLE MUST HAVE A GOOD ELECTRICAL GROUND TO
THE GUARDIAN PANEL TO ENSURE PROPER SENSING.
NORMALLY, THE GROUND PATH IS ACHIEVED THROUGH THE PILOT
NOZZLE, MIXER, MIXER PIPING, FLAME ARRESTOR HOUSING, AND
EXTERNAL PIPING AND CONDUIT. IF A GOOD GROUND IS
NOT ESTABLISHED THROUGH THE PIPING, ETC., IT MAY BE
NECESSARY TO INSTALL A SEPARATE GROUNDING WIRE.
THE IGNITOR/SENSOR ELECTRODE MUST BE INSTALLED IN CLOSE
PROXIMITY (1/8" TO 1/4") TO THE PILOT TO PROVIDE A SHORT
ARC PATH DURING IGNITION AND ALSO BE IN THE PILOT FLAME
AFTER FLAME IGNITION. TRIAL AND ERROR MAY BE
REQUIRED TO ACHIEVE PROPER LOCATION OF THE ELECTRODE. |
